Notable Assignments and Papers
The first class I took that introduced me to the field of public policy and its capacity to change the world for the better was the Introduction to Public Analysis course I took during the Spring of my Freshman year. I learned about market failures, differences in operation at the local, state, and federal levels of policy change and implementation, as well as basic skills for analyzing and recommending policy.
For my final assignment, I took the opportunity to respond to the murder of George Floyd in the way that institutions may respond to it from a policy perspective. I investigated current police training standards in Minneapolis, researched enhanced training methods, and made a recommendation to the Minneapolis City Council based on my findings.
For my final two quarters of undergraduate study, I participated in a Research Apprenticeship through the Political Science department. Through this opportunity, I worked with Alison Boehmer on her research on Work and Political Control in prisons. For additional credit, I was able to work on a project adjacent to the themes of the research that our team was focused on. I chose to focus on rehabilitation for my assignment, investigating entrepreneurship training as a strategy for reducing recidivism.
The paper I have attached includes the abstract, introduction, literature review, and proposed research plan for this study. We were not required to conduct the study, as we had limited resources for the primary project, however I would be interested in investigating this topic further through a completed study.
Artificial Intelligence was used to help organize my ideas and refine my writing for this assignment. All work produced by artificial intelligence was carefully proofread before submission.
